Are you looking for the “it” place to live in Vermont? Look no further than Waterbury. With excellent restaurants, easy access to I-89, Montpelier, Waitsfield, Stowe, and Burlington, Waterbury is not just ideally located, but gives its residents everything they want, from acres with mountain views to downtown convenience and accessibility.

The Waterbury community is warm and inviting, with opportunities to participate in town events almost every weekend. The River of Light Parade, for example, takes place each winter. Community members of all ages create their own paper lanterns to walk the parade route right through town led by Burlington’s street Samba band, Sambatucada. If you just want to stand by and watch this beautiful display go by, great! And if you want to participate? The town offers lantern making workshops!

Open to all, Rusty Parker Memorial Park is home to concerts in the park and the Waterbury Farmers’ Market (every Thursday in the warmer months). If you’d rather check out some indoor music with the option of grabbing some food or a drink, head out of the village a bit and hit up the Zenbarn, owned by a local Waterbury resident. You’ll find American Roots music nights on Thursdays, and a unique collection of performing artists scheduled throughout the year.

For commuters, the downtown area is also home to an Amtrak train station that services travelers venturing from Saint Albans all the way down to Washington DC. There’s also a Green Mountain Transit stop in town for those who wish to take advantage of the bus for area adventures or work commutes to Burlington or Montpelier.

Another special place to enjoy is the Waterbury Reservoir, a popular place to cool down or camp out in the summer. Their remote campsites offer an open, private, and relaxing space to enjoy the beauty of getting away from it all.

Before you head down to the water, be sure to stop at Cold Hollow Cider for some classic freshly made apple cider donuts! If you get a bit of a later start, head there anyway for a cider and sandwich to take with you for your day on the rez.  Umiak Outfitters sets up next to the reservoir daily to provide kayak, paddleboard, and canoe rentals to anyone wanting to head out onto the water!

When it’s not quite a beach day, this town makes almost every mountain in the area a possibility for skiing or mountain biking. Sugarbush, Stowe, Bolton, and Cochran’s Ski area are all 30 minutes or less from this idyllic Vermont town.

Waterbury is served by four schools in the Harwood Unified Union School District with approximately 1,300 students. The schools provide an above average education with student to teacher ratios of 14:1 at Brookside Primary School, 10:1 at Crossett Brook Middle School, and 9:1 at Harwood Union High School.

So, if you want to literally have it all when you move to Vermont, choose Waterbury as your home base! Get out and take advantage of everything the Green Mountain State has to offer. Oh, and when you’re ready to celebrate the purchase of your new Waterbury home, do it at Hen of the Wood. Trust us.
